Commission Process & Policies

Thank you for considering a custom commission. Every piece is created individually and designed to reflect the personality, spirit, and unique qualities of the subject.

1. Initial Conversation

Every commission begins with a conversation. We’ll discuss your subject, preferred medium, size, timeline, and any special details you would like included.

2. Reference Photographs

Clear reference photos are important. I recommend providing several images that show the subject’s features, expression, and personality.

If your photos are older or limited, I can help determine whether a successful portrait can still be created.

3. Design & Quote

After reviewing your photos and ideas, I will recommend a composition, medium, and size, then provide a quote for the project.

4. Deposit & Scheduling

A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your commission space and begin the artwork.

To ensure each commission receives the time and attention it deserves, I accept no more than four commissions per year.

5. Creation

Each artwork is created individually by hand. Most commissions require approximately 6–8 weeks to complete, depending on size, medium, and complexity.

Progress updates may be provided throughout the process.

6. Completion & Delivery

When the artwork is complete, photographs of the finished piece will be provided for approval.

The remaining balance is due prior to delivery or shipment.

Shipping costs, if applicable, will be discussed before work begins.

Commission Policies

Artistic Interpretation

While every effort is made to create an accurate likeness, each commission remains an original work of art and reflects my artistic style and interpretation.

Copyright

Copyright and reproduction rights remain with the artist, Joyce Casey.

Clients receive ownership of the original artwork, while the artist retains the right to display the artwork in portfolios, exhibitions, galleries, websites, social media, promotional materials, and to offer prints or reproductions of the artwork unless otherwise agreed in writing prior to the commission.

Commission Availability

Commission availability is limited. Once annual commission spaces are filled, additional requests may be placed on a waiting list for the following year

Ready to Begin?

If you're interested in discussing a commission, I'd love to hear about your project.

Whether you're considering a companion animal portrait, equine artwork, a custom mosaic, or a special piece celebrating a meaningful relationship, I'm happy to answer questions and help determine the best approach for your artwork.

Because I accept only a limited number of commissions each year, early inquiries are encouraged.
